Isomaltooligasaccharide is derived from refined corn starch. It consists of 2-10 anhydro-glucose units with alpha-1,6- glucosidic linkages. Now it is known as a new kind of the popular functional sugar resources because it is hard to be digested in the stomach or intestine of human body. So it is usually be called no digestive sugar.
The function of Isomaltooligasaccharide:
1. Stimulating the growth of Bifidobacterium.
IMO is hardly digested and absorbed in human gastrointestine tract. It can be used as a favorable growth factor for bifidobacterium. The flourishing intestinal colonies of this beneficial bacteria help to alter the intestinal microflora balance,inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria. So,it is usually called bifidofactor.

IMO is hardly metabolized by yeast and lactobacillus. It is one kind of additives with low calories and helps prevent weight gain.

1. In food industry
1.1. Dairy foods
Infant milk powder: After the period of breast-feeding,the babies are easy to get diarrhea,constipation,digestive disorder and other diseases because of the lack of dominance of bifidobacteria in their intestines. In order to regain their health, bifidofactor should be added to regulate the Intestinal microflora. Infant milk powder containing IMO as a substitute of sucrose are produced through Atomization and Spray technology.
Adult milk powder: Milk powder containing IMO is favorable to simulate the growth of bifidobacteria in elders' intestinal tract,which improves the gastroenteric function and enhance the immune ability.
Active cultured milk: Add IMO to fresh milk and then to produce active youhourt by the fermentation of bifidobateria and lactobacillus. IMO plays a key role in maintaining the abundance of bifidobateria. The functional soybean milk can also be produced if IMO is mixed with the milk.
1.2. Functional fruit juice:

3. In torrefied foods industry
Bread and cake can gain some super flavor and function by adding IMO because of its hygroscopicity,low sweat taste and low fermentability. Cakes become more crisp and soft and Bread is more elastic and delicious. These products are easy to keep freshness and longer shelf life. It can decrease the crystallizability,lumping,deterioration,and sweet taste in sweetened bean paste and the lotus seed paste , and is good for health .
4. In feed industry
IMO is used in feeding domestic animals,fowl and aquatic products as a substitute of live microorganism preperation. It has the effect of stimulating growth and health protection. Pigs were fed with 0.25% IMO for 21 days. The results compared with the control group showed that the daily we i ghts increased 7%,and the feed efficiency improved to 14%. Chicken's survival rate, we ight gain and feed efficiency improved when Chickens were fed with 0.2% IMO.
